A Trace left Behind
These feathers were found; shed, discarded and left behind. Each lost feather symbolises the absence of what was there before. The bird has flown away and left its mark - a calling card.
I gather the feathers and tend to them. I print each feather with stories of finding the way home. I leave my mark – my calling card.
Each is feather is attached by long nails to the wall and lit by multiple light sources, casting layered floating, feather-shaped shadows. Intermittently, lights go off and come on again, causing shadows to come and go; sometimes over-lapping, sometimes not there at all.
To mark, permanently, something that is so transitory and ethereal I draw a soft pencil line around each shape, so even when the shadow is gone the evidence of its existence still remains.
